Keeping with my Audrey Hepburn theme

I bought a cute (and very basic) Michael Kors LBD at YOOX last night. It's pretty simple and very timeless and will be just perfect to take to Australia in March. And, I got the last one! I'm just hoping that it fits!

Ms. Audrey said in an interview with Barbara Walters, Women can look like Audrey Hepburn by flipping out their hair, buying the large glasses and the little seeveless dresses.

Were only it that easy. Audrey had style within, and while the clothes might be a reflection of that, style in this case seems to have very little to do with one's wardrobe.

Hubert De Givenchy once said, There is not a woman alive who does not dream of looking like Audrey Hepburn.

I'd say that sentiment still rings true.

I hope she's forever a style icon.

I can't wait for the dress to arrive and to hear it fits!

yes, Audrey is fantastic - pure class. Can't buy that. Although the LBD is a start !

What current celebrity is a true style icon, do you think ? I can't imagine that people will still be admiring, say, Sienna Miller in another 20, 30 or 50 years...

Good question, chimera. People will probably still talk about Madonna -- not in the same way as they did (do) about Audrey, but she did revolutionize fashion. I'll have to think about that one. The thing about Audrey is that you look at her and know immediately, "That's Audrey Style." Hmmmm....

Sienna Miller shouldn't be admired now! Sorry, it boggles my mind why she's a celebrity at all.

Interesting question...the problem is styles are copied so often now...what Kate wears one day, H&M has in store the next and millions of people copy, badly or otherwise, and you have clones, not style. People definitely respect 'Audrey style'.

Even Kate, who is prolly the most important style icon of these times, won't last beyond how long she stays in the public eye, IMO.

Sienna Miller drives me nuts.

And what you're saying about style is so true. Even if I'm inspired by Audrey, I don't want to copy her. I CAN'T copy her because I am not her. So while elements of Audrey might appear in my style, I have to understand myself in order to understand my own sense of style.

Julia, what was that Coco Chanel quote you sent me ages ago that talked about the difference between fashion and style? Or something like that? The true definition of style?

That's a beautiful quote! Thanks for sharing it :)

Wow, zlatickogirl, your comment just showed up. Thanks for commenting here. Nice to find a fellow Audrey fan. I don't know as much (very little, in fact) about Jackie. Perhaps I should read up on her.

I agree about Sienna, it amazes me that girls everywhere think she's a style icon. What? Audrey and Jackie O, that's class. Looove the dress. Very glamorous!

Still waiting for UPS to deliver it.

And inspired by zlatickogirl I just ordered a Jackie bio (and another Audrey bio -- can't have too many of those, can we?)

I checked out your blog the other day (I think I posted a comment) -- it was so fun!

It's very well written, and I like the fact that you're trying to bring out the more general qualities of her style -- as in: The point isn't to copy her. If you don't like black turtlenecks, don't wear them. But the bigger point is to find what works for you, and think about these principles when you do so.
